Capturing how it felt

“They say they will love, comfort, honour each other to the end of their days. They say they will cherish each other and be faithful to each other always. They say they will do these things not just when they feel like it, but even – for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health – when they don’t feel like it at all. In other words, the vows they make could hardly be more extravagant. They give away their freedom. They take on themselves each other’s burdens. They bind their lives together. The question is, what do they get in return? They get each other in return. There will always be the other to talk to, to listen to. There is still someone to get through the night with, to wake into the new day beside. If they have children, they can give them, as well as each other, roots and wings. They both still have their lives apart as well as a life together. They both still have their separate ways to find. But a marriage made in heaven is one where a man and a woman become more richly themselves together than the chances are either of them could ever have managed to become alone.”

Do you have specifc questions? Let’s get in touch!

The Experience

  • Our First Date

It’s important that we are on the same page, so I always make it a point to meet every couple before I agree to take them on as a client. We can meet either through a video chat or over a cup of coffee - think of it as our “first date”. The experience you have with your photographer will ultimately reflect how you feel about your photographs later on, so it’s important that we are of the right fit to each other.

After our “first date”, if you were keen to have me at your wedding, let me know and we can proceed to secure your wedding date. Once the deposit of $1000 is paid, the date is yours!

  • Before the Big Day

From our first date till your wedding day, if you had any questions, feel free to email me. I’m happy to help in your planning if it means a better outcome. Plus, I’ve had more than 15 years of weddings under my belt, so I know a thing or two about scheduling and challenges on a wedding day.

About a month before your wedding day, we’ll catch up again to go through the nitty gritty things of schedule.

A week before the wedding, I’ll send you a link to choose your favourite wedding day portraits. This gives me a better idea of what kind of portraits you like and so I can tailor the session to you both and also helps you mentally prepare for it.

  • Your Wedding Day

My approach as a wedding photographer is to be as invisible as possible, letting the day play out as naturally as possible. Ideally, I would love for you not to notice me at all throughout the day (I have many couples tell me this at the end of the night, which makes me very happy). The only real “art direction” I give you would be during the portrait section of the day. I generally need no longer than 45 mins of portraits - I find that anything longer than 45 mins ends up being like a fashion shoot or being too contrived.

  • After the Celebration

    Congratulations! You’re are now married!
In the next couple of days, I will send you a couple of sneak previews from your wedding days. This is just a teaser, and to hopefully extend the wave of excitement and emotion you have been on. If you are sharing the photographs on social media, I would be grateful if you could tag me.

The full set of images will be ready within 4-6 weeks.

  • Relive the day

4-6 weeks after your wedding day, I will send you a link to your personalised online viewing gallery. The gallery will allow you to download the high resolution images and also allow you to share your photos with your loved ones. Within the viewing gallery, you can also order artisanal products from the online store such as handmade prints & bespoke frames to bring your images to life.

If you were interested in getting a wedding album made, do let me know, and I can get started on the layout for your approval.

FAQ

  • What is your Covid/pandemic policy?

If you have to postpone your wedding due to Covid or future pandemic reasons (fingers crossed we are well past that), the deposit is non refundable but can be used within the next 3 years for any of my services. I feel like 3 years is enough time to organise another wedding, do a family shoot, or a portrait session.

  • We are looking a videographer for our wedding. Is there anything I should know?

When you are looking for a videographer, I encourage you to ask them about how their approach to the wedding day before booking them just based on their portfolio. I’m happy to work with anyone but sometimes couples get caught off guard when the videographers end up directing them all day. Most of my clients hire me for my invisible subtle approach, and so would like a similar approach from their videographer too.

The other thing to ask your videographer is where they would stand during the ceremony. I’ve had a few videographers who place themselves and their big tripod in the middle of the aisle, 3 feet away from the wedding couple. Not only do they block your guest’s view of the ceremony, but also limit what I can do from the aisle. Most videographers have at least 2 cameras, and the ideally the middle camera should be at the back of the aisle so that everyone has a clear view of the ceremony.

  • What happens if you can’t make it to our wedding?

If I can’t make it to your wedding (act of God, serious illness or injury, death, etc), I will reach out to my network of photographers and find out who is available for you to select as a replacement. If I can’t make it to your wedding, your money will be refunded.

  • You look young. How many years have you been photographing weddings?

Thanks for the compliment! But if you observe carefully enough, I have a whole bunch of white hair hiding. I started photographing weddings in 2005, so it’s been a while!

  • How many weddings do you take on a year?

Weddings can be really big days, so I limit the number of weddings I do a year because I want to provide my best to each client. I’ve been on the opposite end of the spectrum shooting 50+ weddings a year and just didn’t end up enjoying it as much. Since then, I’ve adopted the less is more philosophy and have found it to incredibly meaningful.

  • Do you travel for weddings?

Yes and no. I used to travel internationally and interstate regularly for weddings all the time. But once I got married and had kids, I’ve made a decision to cut down traveling as frequently for weddings. I’ve seen how many wedding photographers make the mistake of traveling often to the point their marriages or families break down and vowed not to make the same mistake. So now I consider only travel for weddings on a case by case basis - only committing to it when it works for me and my family, because to me, there’s nothing more important than my family. That being said, I do have family in Singapore, so it is a lot easier for me to travel to Singapore.
